BROOKE BURNETT - ABOUT ME

My love and appreciation for cartoons began when my parents first allowed me to sit in front of a television screen. At a young age, I knew that I wanted to pursue arts in the future, and I found much of my inspiration through the cartoons and animations that I grew up on. I can still remember gawking in awe over the Nickelodeon and Boomerang shows that would air every Saturday morning. Currently, my personal style is very “pop” oriented and is often labeled as cartoony or animated. I love creating a variety of characters and forms within my art while still maintaining a very pop-centric style. I seek to convey multiple emotions and narratives within my pieces in order to involve the observer as much as possible, incorporating storytelling elements within my art while still leaving bits of space for individual interpretation.

I work with a variety of media, but I find the most comfort in working with digital platforms (such as Photoshop, Paint Tool Sai, and Sketchbook Pro) as they allows for even coloration when applying bold tones. Digital media also is very efficient for cleaning up messes, changing tones/colors, editing textures, moving certain items within a piece, layering, etc. Aside from digital softwares, my other preferred media consists of (but is not limited to): copic and prismacolor markers, sharpies, watercolors, and gouache.

I want to dissolve the stereotype that non-realism artists aren’t “true” artists. Although I have the capability to develop creations with fine, realistic detail, my true passion lies within creating images that relate the most to my character, which is bold pop-art. No one artist should be pressured into pursuing an artistic career that does not fit their standards of enjoyment merely because their surrounding influences may tell them otherwise.

I hope that my art will aid in the affirmation that not all artists need to reach a certain ability within their style or technique to be successful and happy. Art is everywhere, for everyone.
